Chef’s table experience

The tour...

As one of the biggest fans of this part of the Mediterranean, and Split in particular, I want to make my guests equally excited about Split!

Is there a better way to feel the pulse of the city than walking around the old town and meeting a friend at the greenmarket to get fresh ingredients for lunch? Especially when that friend is one of the greatest chefs in Split and an endless source of cooking inspiration. After the shopping’s done, I usually bribe her with a cup of coffee to give me some simple lunch ideas, but this time we’ll let her wait for us in her cooking studio.

... goes like this

As a history buff, I look forward to taking you on a “once upon a time” journey through the city’s cobbled streets and showing you layer after layer of its history.  In order to really understand Dalmatian cuisine and appreciate the Mediterranean diet, it is essential to pick up some basic historical facts, so you can get an authentic perspective on every dish you are being served.
However, we don’t want our food wizard to wait too long for us. After exploring the historical center of Split and checking what’s on offer at the green market and the fish market, we’re off to meet our chef in her urban kitchen.
Once we’re all seated around the dining table, we’ll take you on a journey to discover Split as it is today. You’ll hear all about our daily life, become a local for the day and learn how to eat, drink (and cook) like a true Dalmatian. There are no secrets about food – nothing is hidden and all dishes will be prepared right in front of you. We’ll share local food stories and when all is said and done, you’ll most definitely have some party tricks up your sleeve to impress your friends back home! The best part of living the Dalmatian dream is just existing, hanging out with friends, eating, drinking and laughing. And that is what the Chef’s Table Experience is all about. The joy of spending time together and sharing stories is the main ingredient of every meal we share.

Gathering around the dining table is the basic of our lifestyle so the Chef’s table experience can be arranged any day of the week, all year long, except on Christmas and St. Stephen’s day – I am at my mother’s, enjoying her world-famous pašticada; and New Years Day – I am at my mother in law’s, eating her famous roast. According to the Dalmatian constitution, you are not allowed to mess with Mother. Strictly speaking, there is no such thing as a Dalmatian constitution, but you should definitely take this information seriously. When Mothers become Grandmothers, then the most important law of the universe applies: do not mess with grandma’s family gathering. Just don’t. Otherwise, we are ready to have you on this tour whenever you visit Split. Cellars of Diocletian’s Palace are open for visits Monday to Sunday from 9AM – 16PM, so we can offer this tour all year. During the summer and high season, the opening hours are more flexible, even on bank holidays, so it should not be a problem to arrange it all year round. As for the green market and the fish market, working hours are from 7AM – 12:30 PM, and that’s why we like to start this tour in the morning.  You can reach me at dalmatian.lifestyle@gmail.com, even on bank holidays. I’ll have to hide around the house to read your email and maybe won’t be able to reply right away, but I’ll somehow send you all the information that you might need while arranging this tour. I look forward to hearing from you!
