The experiences
Chef’s table
As one of the biggest fans of this part of the Mediterranean, and Split in particular, I want to get my guests equally excited about Split! Is there a better way to feel the pulse of the city than walking around the old town, and meeting a friend at the greenmarket to get fresh ingredients for lunch? Especially when that friend is one of the greatest chefs in Split and an endless source of cooking inspiration. After shopping I usually bribe her with a cup of coffee to give me some easy lunch ideas, but this time we will let her wait for us in her cooking studio.
Cooking Class
- Šta je za obid? – that is THE question, the mother of all questions, meaning – what's for lunch today? There is no question more important in a Dalmatian house than this one. The answer can make or break the atmosphere of the house for a day. And every day counts! So it's not weird to make a little survey among your closest friends or some random people that you just met at the green market, butcher or the fish market...
Dalmatian cuisine aka sitting tour
This one is for all those truly curious travellers who want to see „behind the scenes“. I am taking you for a walk through my childhood neighbourhood which happened to be one of the main stars of the exhibition Toward a Concrete Utopia: Architecture in Yugoslavia, 1948–1980, which took place in the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York City in 2018.
Foodie tour - morning tour
I may not be a morning person myself, but I'll admit, every time I wake up early and hit the town I start considering becoming one. There is something about mornings in the Mediterranean. The noise, the colours on the green market, the traders trying to persuade you to buy their product, the seniors rushing to get the best fish and fish market, the ones already drinking coffee and planning their day,... We simply call it "šušur". There are no words that will do justice to this everyday occasion, so we're going into the centre of happening and you can explore it yourself.
Jewish story
You know how sometimes small chit-chats and passing comments can have a big impact on you? That is exactly what brought this tour to light! A guest on a foodie tour asked about the Jewish history in Split and made me realize I’ve never really dug into it. So I made a promise to myself to learn all about it and search for the clues in the city center. It made me realize how strongly Jewish history is embedded in the history of Split. It really is one of the most intriguing stories in Split. Synagogue and jewish cemetery are the obvious traces of jewish community but there are so many little clues in Split city center that are offering a broader view and sending us on a real journey through history.
Split 3 - recent history or how we do it today
This one is for all those truly curious travellers who want to see „behind the scenes“. I am taking you for a walk through my childhood neighbourhood which happened to be one of the main stars of the exhibition Toward a Concrete Utopia: Architecture in Yugoslavia, 1948–1980, which took place in the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York City in 2018.
Veli Varoš - the story of a local man
Up until recently, this neighbourhood has been known as the symbol of craftsmen and artisans but modernisation has done its job thoroughly. All the ropemakers, laundresses, seamstresses and farmers are gone - all but fishermen! They are still gathering in their port called Matejuška. I know you will discover them on your own, so I’m taking you up the hill, through the net of “kaleta” - narrow, irregular streets which are keeping alive that original Dalmatian atmosphere.
